Personal Administration Assistant

Job Description:

Susan Badcock Gallery is a highly established and respected contemporary dealer gallery in the small South Canterbury town of Geraldine.

The role is primarily based in the Gallery but there will be opportunities to work between the Gallery shop, The Mailroom (also based in Geraldine) and Susan Badcock Gallery.The Gallery represents three generations of Badcock art and has a small selection of other contemporary New Zealand artists.

You will also be provided with the opportunity to form relationships with both senior artists and collectors, alike.

There are great opportunities for professional development and a thorough induction and training will be provided.

We ask that you have some previous administrative/gallery experience, and most importantly a genuine interest in the visual arts.

Role

The Personal Administration Assistant will entail responsibility for supporting the Gallery Director in the day-to-day operation of the gallery including liaising with customers and artists, organising the regular programme of gallery exhibitions, general office administration, researching and producing engaging content for the marketing programme in both hardcopy and electronic format, and providing administrative oversight and support to The Mailroom.

Essential skills:

  • Office Management experience - preferably in a steady-paced and small business environment
  • Strong client relationship and customer service skills
  • Superb written and verbal communication
  • Experience managing projects or events to budget and deadline
  • Ability to research, write and proofread engaging content for marketing & sales
  • Confident IT skills: Databases, Website CMS, Mac, Mailchimp
  • Genuinely passionate about the visual arts & culture
  • Desirable skills:
  • Design competencies
  • Experience in art gallery / museum environment
    • Business management
  • You will be required to demonstrate high levels of professionalism, confidentiality, integrity, honesty and resilience.

    You will have a can-do attitude and be hard-working and practical.

    The hours of work are 20 hours and the days are to be negotiated.Some weekend work will be required.
